Movement Matters Association

is a group of people in Vancouver BC, interested in the use of creative and organic somatic movement approaches to facilitate the integration of body, mind and spirit.  This work promotes healing, growth and connection within and among individuals, communities and the environment.

             Its purposes are:

To educate the public about the depth and possibility of somatic movement approaches

Somatic Movement Education delves deeply and profoundly into our primal origins in order to stimulate and regenerate new and innovative pathways, whether physiologically, psychically, emotionally and/or spiritually. Rather than teaching prescribed forms, these movement processes are designed to enable participants to creatively discover and express their own organic, intrinsic movement.

The first Movement Matters conference was held on April 12 - 14 2002 at Vancouver School of Theology.  It was co-sponsored by Langara College Continuing Studies, Centre for Holistic Health Studies. In the summer of 2002, Movement Matters Association was formed and was incorporated as a non-profit society under the British Colulmbia Societies Act.

Since that time, members of Movement Matters Association presented a day of workshops at the Scotia Dance Centre's First Birthday celebrations in September, 2002. On June 7th, 2003, the association sponsored a one day seasonal event, "Moving into Summer: Discovering the Potential of our Embodied Selves." Another conference, "Opening New Pathways," happened April 2-4, 2004 at Capilano College in North Vancouver. November 27, 2005 "Body and Soul" at the Scotia Dance Centre.
